A True Adirondack Wilderness Experience

The Elk Lake - Clear Pond Preserve includes 40 miles of well-maintained private trails for the exclusive use of our guests. Elk Lake is also the take-off point for state trails into the Adirondacks' High Peaks.

Boating and fishing are available on 600-acre Elk Lake with its open water, inlets, bays and many islands and on the 200-acre deep glacial waters of Clear Pond. Kayaks, Rowboats, and canoes, are provided for guests.

Brook trout are abundant in Elk Lake and it is not uncommon to hook into a two-pound Brook trout, with an occassional three pounder. Also, lake trout and landlocked salmon may be found in nearby Clear Pond. Or you may venture into the several rushing streams and mountain ponds nearby for an incredible fly fishing experience.

Elk Lake provides an endlessly satisfying seasonal variety of Adirondack landscapes prized by photographers, naturalists, foragers, and ornithologists. It is the perfect place to stay in the Adirondacks and explore the true Adirondack wilderness.

Come to Elk Lake, enjoy a hearty Adirondack breakfast, and hear the haunting cry of the loon at Elk Lake Lodge!

“Set amid more than 12,000 acres in a 'spectacular' 'Adirondack location', this 'lovely, low-key' lakeside resort (circa 1904) offers charming 'individual cabins' as well as rooms in its main lodge; it's 'great for quiet boating and hiking', as well as fishing, swimming and canoeing surrounded by beautiful mountains; guests have speedboat-free Elk Lake and Clear Pond entirely to themselves and can enjoy 45 miles of pristine trails; the room rate includes three meals and it's an easy five-hour drive from New York or Boston, so most find it's a great 'family or romantic' getaway; N.B. it's open May-October.”
